Daily Horoscope for Monday 5 January

Be calm, people. The Full Moon is here. If you are sensitive to this powerful Moon (and if you’re an Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn then you are), it might help to choose between devoting your time today to your family or spending time securing your career. Trying to enjoy a family meal whilst preparing reports for work will be a stressful disaster.

Celebrity Profile: Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton was born 5 January 1946. Her first professional stage debut was in 1968 in the musical Hair. During that year, Saturn was in the middle of three oppositions to natal Jupiter in Libra. Natally, Keaton’s Saturn is in Cancer, a sign noted for its shyness. She achieved notoriety when she refused to disrobe in Hair at the end of act one. She is also said to be as reclusive as Betty Garbot and is a staunch opponent of plastic surgery.

Her first significant film role was in The Godfather in 1972 as transit Saturn was conjunct her natal Uranus. Francis Ford Coppola cast her because of her eccentricity, a trait associated with planet Uranus. Keaton would claim she was known as the “kooky actress” in the film industry. The film ended up becoming the highest grossing film of 1972 and would win the Best Picture Oscar of that year. Two years later as Jupiter squared her natal Uranus, she reprised her role for The Godfather II.

After a number of collaborations with Woody Allen, Keaton landed the role of a lifetime in Annie Hall in 1977, her most famous role. Jupiter in Libra is noted for its love of fashion and as it was conjunct Uranus that year, it should be no astrological surprise that Keaton’s wardrobe favouring men’s clothing accessories made her an unlikely fashion icon of that era. Later that year, in a departure from her eccentric roles, she was cast as the lead in Looking for Mr Goodbar. Time magazine praised her for her choice whilst simultaneously criticising the role available for women:

“A male actor can fly a plane, fight a war, shoot a badman, pull off a sting, impersonate a big cheese in business or politics. A female can play a wife, play a whore, get pregnant, lose her baby, and, um, let’s see. . .Women are presumed to be dull. . .” Love, Life and La-De-Dah, TIME magazine, 26 September 1977.

Keaton continued to rack up awards and accolades for Manhattan (1980), Reds (1981), Shoot the Moon (1983) and Marvin’s Room (1997). But as Jupiter again squared her natal Uranus, she won several awards for Something’s Gotta Give (2003). In it Keating plays a professional, divorced woman who, quite unusually, holds no bitterness for her ex-husband.

Jupiter will once again square her natal Uranus in 2016 when her next film, Finding Dory, is due to be released. The film is a sequel to Finding Nemo and Keaton will play the forgetful Dory’s mother.

Your horoscopes

You are usually a person of action but today you may feel paralysed by all the action around you. Where do you fit in? Chances are you are feeling that it’s all a bit too much for you and the best place for you would be playing on the internet with your cyber friends.

Communication with family members might be fraught if you push your traditional views too far. You have the reputation of being a bit of a stick-in-the-mud and you do yourself no favours by continually saying how much you liked Mary Whitehouse.

Retail therapy is the only cure for your bad mood. A particular ‘bargain’ may not be all it seems however and you should consider how much it will take to maintain in the long run. What you buy today may not make you happy tomorrow so choose your purchases carefully.

How do you look? Absolutely radiant! People are drawn to you today to get a break from the hullaballoo around them. If you feel it’s all a bit too much, you can always hide away until it all blows over. However, you’ll feel better knowing you’ve given someone a helping hand so get your head out of the sand and enjoy the party.

What’s the matter Leo? No one paying you any attention? Stop feeling sorry for yourself and step off the stage for a few minutes to let others have a chance at being the star. You are an incredibly generous person and others will love you all the more for the sacrifices you make.

There you were, just going about your business when suddenly you realize, there’s something important that you’ve forgotten. It could be an appointment with a friend, a club meeting you’ve forgotten to schedule into your iPhone or a phone call you were supposed have made.  You put a lot of pressure on yourself to be perfect but maybe just for today you can laugh about your mistakes.

It’s hard to get used to the changing needs of your family. But the good thing is that your family seems to need you less today. Whilst it’s nice to see them breaking away from the family herd, it can leave you feeling as you haven’t done enough. Relax and enjoy your newfound freedom.

A sudden change in your normal routine disturbs your carefully balanced life just when you thought you had everything under control. A powerful message from a sibling or someone like a sibling) helps you to put things in perspective. It’s all change in the neighbourhood but a bit of familiarity can take away the sting.

Your energy is a little down these days but yet you long for a shake-up. Taking a chance on someone who has proven unreliable in the past is not a good move. You may detest playing it safe but doing so just might save your bacon.

It may seem that everyone needs you today. Family members in particular seem to be bringing out the worst in you because they all seem to want a bit of your hard earned cash. A pay rise is coming your way so don’t be such a cheapskate.

You’re feeling rather foxy today so it’s time to strut your stuff. You seem to have the right things to say too which can only mean romance (or at the very least a bit of flirting) is in the air. You’re not the cuddliest of people but not everyone in the world wants a teddy bear.

A walk on the wild side is the order of the day. Try something new but make sure what you are gambling with isn’t going to wreck your plans for that nice holiday you’ve been planning. If you can’t really afford to lose something then don’t take irresponsible chances.
