Daily Horoscopes for 4 January 2015

And a very happy Perihelion to you (thanks to Donna Woodall for the link)!
As I’m a reluctant Star Sign columnist, I am still working on finding my style and honing my technique. I’m delighted to have received so much positive feedback and equally over the moon (a-hem) to see my viewing stats more than quadruple. I guess you guys like star signs, huh?

To generate the chart of the day, I use midnight GMT and turn the chart so the star sign being written about is on the ascendant. Initially I was worried that I would run out of things to say but actually, it’s a bit like shooting fish in a barrel: there’s tons of stuff to write about and the challenge has been to keep things short and sweet in the style of other star sign columnists and to make the dailies manageable for me—I do have an unrelated full time job after all. So, for the moment, I am just sticking to the usual planets and unless something jumps out at me, I’m deliberately looking for other astronomical bodies to add into what is a very rich tapestry with which to work.

Having said that, there are certain things I can’t help but notice such as certain fixed stars, an in-yer-face midpoint or an obvious lunation. So the chart for midnight today had me scrambling for a little help with the delineation: The Moon was conjunct the fixed star Betelgeuse receiving an inconjunct aspect from Mercury (in Capricorn) and Saturn (in Scorpio), the latter two slightly out of orb to qualify to make a yod formation. But it is enough for me to think ‘uh-oh, this is either going to be a completely spectacular day in the news or a completely miserable one..’ After all, the Moon was on Betelgeuse when the first Twin Tower exploded in 9/11.  I’m hoping those inconjunct aspects prevent a potential threat from happening. Kind of like a near miss that reminds us of how lucky we were.

However, as we’re waiting for Betelgeuse’s impending supernova, perhaps it’s blowing things out of proportion to expect something so dramatic. My friend Marina Darkstar invites us to consider Henry VIII and fat Elvis: beautiful and strong in their youth but ‘bloaters’ in their later lives. Today’s news may see a blowout by way of an over-inflated ego being brought down to size.  We’ll have to see. With Uranus on the descendant of the midnight chart, it looks like anything can happen. Personally, I’m keeping a watch on North Korea whose ascendant is at 0 Cancer, within orb of Betelgeuse as well as Uranus. I'll let you guess what bloater I'd like to see taken down.

Celebrity birthdays for 4 January: actresses Dyan Cannon and Julia Ormond, one half of the Brothers Grimm, Jacob Grimm and Sterling Holloway (the voice of Winnie-the-pooh and many others).

Now on to those horoscopes. . .

As the Moon movies into your solar fourth house, you are in a mood to reminisce.  As the day goes on, you may find it increasingly difficult to prevent yourself from daydreaming. If you want to get anything productive done, you may have to enlist in the help of a few friends.

Today is a good day to catch up with good old fashioned correspondences (emails and texts do NOT count).  Invest in some nice, classy stationery, grab your favourite pen and let a loved one know you’re thinking of them.

Today finds you taking stock of your family valuables (yes, that includes people too!) Friends may be desperate for you to come out and play but it feels like one of those days when there is nothing better than hanging out with loved ones.

You’re feeling the impending Full Moon more than anyone else and it’s causing friction amongst those closest to you. Try to keep to your usual routine to help keep you focused and to stop you becoming an unbearable grump.

You can’t seem to shake that feeling that there is something important that you’ve forgotten. In fact, you’re so worried about remembering what you’ve forgotten that you lose track of important valuables like your bankcard and keys.

Friends are a distraction today. This isn’t a bad thing, except you always suffer from guilt if you don’t adhere to your to-do list. And these days, the to-do list is quite long. Will you ever get to the end of it? No, you won’t. So relax and have some fun.

You crave being acknowledged for all the hard work you have been doing—and there is no doubt that you have really rolled your sleeves up recently. Over the next few days your decisions will have an emotional basis that may see your ambitions change.

Your feet are itchy and you’re bored of your routine. You’re tired of being the Responsible One and you are longing to break out your habits to what’s fresh on the horizon.  But will the grass be greener on the other side?

You seem to be in a stage of re-invention and root through past memories and possessions to find something that adequately expresses who you really are. You may even check up on an old flame to see if you’re missing out on anything.

Today you long for company and reach out to others for emotional support. Your significant other is delighted by your need for support but may be puzzled by your sudden insecurity. Take only the emotional support you need and pull yourself together.

Having spent the majority of your life pretending you aren’t subject to the same ‘rules’ as other humans (eating when you’re hungry, for example), you suddenly put a lot of energy into keeping to a healthy regime.  Others will not appreciate your heartfelt advice that they do the same.

Hanging out with children this weekend delights you simply because you are so in tune with your own inner child. It’s a nice day to do a little shopping for a loved one and spoil them in the way only you can.
